It was a glorious day, although not quite as warm as the photos make out.
The outstanding external proportions of the house always take my breath away but it was the first time we had seen further than the first floor rooms usually decorated for Christmas.
Room after room displayed the total indulgence of a man turning a country residence into a Baroque Palace, but the bedrooms were truly beautiful with hand painted exotic wall papers and extravagant bed drapes finished off with exquisite trimmings and tassels.
A tour around the gardens after lunch and an ice cream completed our lovely girly day out.
I would definitely recommend a visit. We’ll be back at Christmas.

Beautiful place! Mr T. grew up in Derbyshire so he has a soft spot for it and I went there while we were doing a nostalgia trip one time. Loving that wallpaper. I have a similar(ish) design on one wall of our bedroom but drew the line at the drapes, tassels and ciel de lit.

Yes, quite beautiful. Lovely gift shops too but Freya and I just walk round them discussing what we could make at home!

Oh, wow! I can’t even imagine what it would have been like to live there – do you suppose you would just take all that opulence for granted? What if you came in with muddy feet? 🙂 A treasure to have so close to you!

You must go. In September they have additional pieces of outdoor sculpture on display for the autumn Sotheby’s auction.
It’s amazing at Christmas too but you only get to see the ground floor.

I visited Chatsworth a couple of years ago and loved it, we were lucky to have a nice sunny day and I could have spent the whole day walking in the grounds. Having said that the bedrooms look fabulous, I love the sumptuous hand-painted wallpapers.

Absolutely. They close for a couple of months over winter for that reason.

Wow, what a view! I remember visiting Chatsworth as a child (a cold and windy day, but my mum packed a flask of hot ribena!) I’m sure you are creating similarly long and happy memories for your daughter! 🙂
