Friday Pattern Company Patina Blouse

Posted by

I’ve had my eye on this one for a while. It’s the Friday Pattern Company Patina Blouse.

I think I’ve been holding off as I wanted to make a short sleeve version and it has taken a long time for spring to show its colours around here.

I really loved the collar, which wasn’t as over powering as some I’ve seen.

It is described as a collared, v-neck, button up top designed for light to mid weight woven fabrics. The sleeves are full and the pattern includes options for a short sleeve or a long sleeve with a cuff and continuous bound placket.

The placket is more of a sewn down facing that goes all the way around the neck and down both what would have been the button plackets. It is ingenious and you get such a lovely clean finish on the inside.

It also comes with two neckline depth options. I made up the deeper one.

I made a size small in accordance with my bust measurement with no modifications apart for the added sleeve cuff – read on.

I’ve made it up this ex designer cotton sateen given to me by Fabworks. It reminds me of a Ted Baker floral print. It’s so unusual.

It’s really lovely to work with although it takes a very new sharp needle to prevent skipped stitches in its dense weave. At £6/m it’s an absolute steal!

I made it up in the short sleeve but really disliked how, with the structure of the fabric, the sleeves stood out like sails.

So, I gathered the sleeve into a cuff and am really pleased with the end effect.

My cuff is 34cm by 5cm; if anyone wants to know. I also cut 2cm off the length of the sleeve before gathering.

I’ve styled it here with jeans but I’m just as likely to wear it for work. I think I just get away with the low v neck for work!

There’ll be another, but in viscose. And another in cotton lawn.

Love, Lucie xx

  1. Hi Lucy, I have been considering this pattern for a while, you have finally made up my mind, I’m going to make it. I knew it had two neck positions and yours doesn’t look too low for me. Well done, you inspire me. Sue

  2. Hi Lucie, this has been on my to do list for ages. I was slightly put off by the cost of the pattern, but think I’ll have to succumb. The gorgeous fabric is a bargain, looks amazing as always

    1. Yes, it doesn’t seem to overwhelm on this blouse but I wouldn’t want to make a dress or indeed a blouse with long sleeves for fear of disappearing amongst the blooms!
