A new pussy bow blouse

It’s an oldie but a goodie. The Sew Over It Pussy Bow Blouse.

I seem to make a lot of work garments, but that is where I spend most of my time!

It’s been several years since I made my first one almost 3 years to the day.

I wore it a lot that first year but now, alas, it could do with a little more room in it!

Last time I made up a size 10 but made lots of adjustments, round back, forward shoulder. With hindsight I should have just gone up a size, which I now tend to do with Sew Over It top/shirt patterns.

With experience I can now see the ease allowance in this blouse for a size 10 is only 3 inches!! No wonder it became a little snug. Going up to a size 12 has given me 5 inches of ease – much more appropriate if you want to move about.

This time I made the size 12 with no fitting modifications.

However, being picky, I can see it would benefit from a forward shoulder adjustment and also the sleeve head is dropping off the top of my shoulder but that seems to be the same in all the Sew Over It Pussy Bow model shots too – so is it intentional? Hmmmm, not sure.

One big modification was to leave out the front seam and cut this piece on the fold ( after first removing the front seam allowance). I reinforced the V with some interfacing and also stay stitched with a reduced length stitch and clipped to the V.

One thing that threw me the first time around in making up this blouse was in the attaching of the bow/neck to the bottom of the V tidily. I realise now that I had sewn up the front seam completely to the top, instead of stopping at the dot mark. This became very much apparent when I intuitively snipped down to the bottom of the V in my no-seam version. I still resorted to a little hand stitching to get a neat finish, but the neck piece is all slipped stitched to the inside of the garment any way.

This is a lovely viscose from my stash and it is definitely an improvement from the high polyester version I previously made which is still going strong for the days I don’t need to lift my arms 😉

Love, Lucie xx
