This is the Montavilla top by Sew House Seven . Worn with my Sunshine yellow skirt New Look 6102

It has been perfect for our recent periods of hot sticky weather when you want as little as possible touching your skin.

For a seemingly simple top it has a couple of interesting features.

This side section has elastic threaded through the top casing which gives it shape and keeps it more fitted whilst being able to get into it without any closures.

But the main feature are these ruffles on the shoulder

I would never have guess how these ruffles are made but it is incredibly simple! The edges of the longer shoulder sections are gathered using a gathering stitch and then sewn to the adjacent shorter section, continuing down to the dot, just like a dart. Magic!

This is a pattern size 4 although my bust measurement pointed to a size 6. I felt that with the ease shown in the garment measurement chart, the 4 would be fine. And it was.

My fabric is a linen from Abakhan. Goes great with jeans too.

I would say you need a linen, or at least a cotton to give the ruffles structure.
On the Sew House Seven website most of the examples are made up in linen.
And it comes in a dress too.

Fingers crossed for a long Indian Summer

Love, Lucie xx
Really love your top – those sleeves are such a clever design! Live your choice of fabric too – it really shows off those ruffles.

Thank you! I would not normally go for ruffles but I thought these just enough. Such a simple thing to do as well.

The pattern on that fabric is lovely – crisp and summery, and looks somehow ‘French’ to me, don’t know why! I am also admiring that *very* flat neckband …

I think I beat the neckband into submission! It was standing right out! I’m really loving french patterns at the moment so know exactly what you mean.
