Just to prove that old adage that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, I give you Morris, the crochet sock monkey.

You’ll find the pattern here on the Craft Passion site
For those puzzled with the reference to ‘sock monkey’ this fella is the shape of a monkey you would normally make out of a single sock, like this one, also from the Craft Passion site.

It is the perfect beginners crochet pattern although probably not one I shall be repeating due to its monotony!
At 18 inches tall, I think he is larger than I envisaged. Too large for favourite toy for a newborn. My friend’s baby is due in the first week of November. I wonder if I could possibly find it in myself to crochet a smaller version to go with him?
Or I might just make a real sock monkey!
Back on the hook tonight. After 3 busy nights of no crochet my fingers are beginning to twitch.
Love, Lucie xx
I’m going to have to learn to crochet…! I’ve been in awe of all your crochet work, but this fab monkey means I have to have a go!

If you don’t fancy making a smaller one, I think this would still be a great gift for a newborn as it would make brilliant nursery décor until he or she is old enough to play with it.

That’s what I’m hoping! The mum-to-be loves bright colours and monkeys so I’ve ticked those two boxes at least.

Thank you – worth the monotony!

He looks lovely… but I get what you mean about the monotony. The bodies of the two minions I made proved to be much bigger than I’d expected. Crocheting nearly 50 straight round (per minion) about drove me mad.

Oh my goodness! I absolutely love your sock monkey! I’m expecting and have been trying to decide if I want to make more than baby afghans. I think I might have to make a little stuffed animal also!
