Closet Core Jenna Shirt

Yes, another oversized shirt!. Although not as over sized as the Maker’s Atelier, Atelier Shirt, this Jenna Shirt by Closet Core Patterns is one I’ve had in my head for a while.

Various versions of an oversized blue and white striped shirt have been popping up on my social media since the summer.

Described as a pattern inspired by an oversized menswear-inspired shirt; it has all the classic details including a chest pocket, traditional shirt collar and collar stand, and a long sleeve with a tower placket and cuff. Note the loop under the back yoke. Such a lovely detail.

It’s modernised by being a looser fit with a dropped shoulder and deep back yoke

There are 3 views within the pattern. View A is the perfect everyday button-up shirt, ending below the bum with a deeply curved hem. View B is a cropped button-up shirt with a straight hem. View C is a shirtdress with a gathered skirt panel.

I’ve made it up in a luxurious-feeling classic Italian Stretch Cotton Poplin bought a couple of weeks ago from Fabworks in Dewsbury. A steal at £6/m.

Closet Core Pattern’s instructions are always excellent, this pattern is no exception. The collar and collar stand instructions are the way I prefer and as described in my David Coffin Shirt making skills book.

I made a size XS which tallied with a 33-34” bust. I’m a 34.5” bust. The finished measurement at the bust is 43”, so 9 inches of ease. My more fitted/tailored shirts have an ease of 5 inches.

I love the deep curved hem. There is optional hem gusset which I tried to incorporate, but I have to admit it completely foxed me. I couldn’t get it to lie flat so I cut it out.

I’m 5ft 3. Next time I would shorten the sleeves, which I say every single time!!!! It’s really tricky to shorten sleeves with a dropped shoulder accurately without first making up the pattern but maybe I should just shorten everything by half an inch going forward. -If I ever remember!!

I can see me wearing this so much. This was my first time I wore it, with my Tello Jacket. Perfect for this time of year.

Let’s hope that it doesn’t get too cold too quickly, here in the UK.
