Meet my new summer dress.

This is the Santa Rosa Dress (and Top) by Liesl and Co. It is a pattern from her most recent release. I always seem to get on well with her patterns and would have happily bought all on the new release.

The Santa Rosa is a relaxed top or dress that features a dropped shoulder, a classic shirt yoke, and a popover placket that can include button or be left open.
There’s also an option for longer sleeves with traditional cuff and placket.

The top view finishes with a slightly cropped hem for a boxy style, and the dress finishes with a shirt-tail hem for a modern take on the classic shirtwaist dress.

It comes in cups sizes too!
I’ll be making up many more versions of this pattern.
I made the size 4 in accordance with my bust size and used the smallest cup option.

This gorgeous red linen looking fabric provided by Minerva is not in fact linen, although it definitely looks like linen. It is 97% Viscose, with 3% spandex for stretch. This gives it so much drape and swishyness!

When sewing, it acts like viscose, in that it’s a little pesky for the finer details. I completely solved that by using spray starch on the placket, collar stand, pocket and bias binding pieces. This makes the sewing process so much more pleasurable and enables you to be more accurate without stretching anything out.

The instructions are great. The placket is nice and large and is like a giant sleeve placket which was so much easier to use on a half placket shirt than previous methods I’ve used.
I like the length of the half placket. I didn’t want to use buttons on it and it is perfect with no buttons without being too revealing.

The instructions include stay stitching the shoulders and neckline which is so important when using fabric like this.
I would not hesitate to use this Minerva linen look viscose again. I think it is extraordinary value for money.

Meanwhile, I’m off to dinner!
Love, Lucie xx

Thanks Claire. Hope the trousers are a true success. I have some light weight deadstock Italian wool to make another pair 😀

Very elegant. Did you just happen to have a belt in exactly the same colour? 😉
That viscose fabric looks like a good buy and so many choices of colour.

Ha! My intended red belt (old TKMaxx purchase) fell to bits😢 when pulling it from the draw. So NEXT quickly came to my rescue. Probably cost more than the fabric 🤣🤣

I think your back pleat treatment is what elevates this dress, and of course, the fabric! Just bought this pattern and will use your back pleat, for sure!

Yes, I got the back pleat completely the wrong way around but I think I like it like that 😂
