Simplicity 8983, Covid isolation

Happy New Year all!!!!

So one small silver lining of having Covid across the time from Christmas to New Year, cancelling all remaining plans that had not already been cancelled from others falling ill with the same, but only actually being ill 2 days ( I know I was extremely fortunate), was lots of sewing time.

So this is my Covid dress, although my husband calls it my ‘cowgirl dress’ :))

No, this is not me ;), this is the pretty dire pattern image! You might wonder what drew me to this dress.

Well it was the proprietor of the Denim Fabric Company who was exhibiting at the Harrogate Knit and Stitching Show before Christmas. She was wearing the exact same pattern in this exact fabric.

It’s rather a break from my usual style but I rather think I like it!!

The fabric is a medium weight denim with some stretch. It’s the perfect weight for this time of year, should I be let out of the house at some point.

It is the belt that cinches it. Takes it from tent to something more wearable.

In accordance with my bust measurement (36 ”) I made a size 14.

I cut 6 inches off the long version of the dress, mid way between view A and View B. I went with the 3/4 length sleeves with simple elastic cuffs.

I cut out 2 yokes, unlike the pattern instructions.

Due to the slightly fiddleliness of the half placket I would say it’s suitable for an advanced beginner/intermediate dressmaker. It’s described as a loose-fitting dress or top with small stand collar, three-button neck fastening and back yoke with sleeve style and length variations. Suitable for light-to-medium-weight woven fabrics.

The instructions were actually pretty good.

So Simplicity S8983 is not one to be overlooked!

Just don’t forget the belt!
