A warm red crepe

Posted by

This is my (slightly) belated monthly make for Minerva Crafts.

Regular readers will know I have made a few disappointing items recently, or items that have not performed well through use.

After a little procrastination I finally sat myself down at my sewing machine and produced this in around 3 hrs.

True Bias Sutton Blouse1

It is the True Bias Sutton Blouse. It was a pdf downloaded from the True Bias site.suttonblouselinedrawing_bigcartel I’ve made one before and it gets a huge amount of wear.

If truth be told this gorgeous red crepe from Minerva was a little too good a quality for the Sutton.

heavy red crepe

The pattern details are definitely more suited to a lighter weight material but I persevered and actually love its contemporary ‘sporty boxy’ look.

I didn’t realize that a ‘triple crepe’ is more suited to jackets and dresses. This also has a slightly textured appearance and a slight ‘give’ which makes this fabric drape and sew beautifully.

The pattern, however, is brilliant. It explains every single step, leaving you with the most beautifully finished insides including these lovely french seams. Apologies for the colour in these next few. It’s sooo difficult to photograph red indoors!

You can’t rush this one but’ll it’ll pay off

I’m off to make another in a lighter weight.

This one will go back in my wardrobe until Autumn. You wouldn’t believe how warm this heavy weight red crepe is.

True Bias Sutton Blouse1It would be superb for drapey waterfall jacket.

Well I think I have conquered my dress making demons once again. I’m getting straight back on that machine!

    1. Christmas! You mentioned the C word! Although it is definitely a piece for Christmas. It is definitely unseasonal at the moment; we seem to be enjoying a few days of sunny calm weather.
I think my top could benefit from a wash and another press to help it lie down a bit and then I shall look forward to wearing it in a few months time.

  2. Oh, Tialys had already mentioned Christmas! I was going to say it looks lovely for a Christmas party where you’re not sure how dressy-uppy it is. It’s gorgeous fabric, and the pattern shows it off beautifully!

  3. Don’t you look great in red! Love the top. Glad you are back on speaking terms with the sewing machine. You have inspired me to buy a Colette pattern and fabric. Now perhaps this will inspire me to actually make the dress. 🙂

      1. I know – I have left the fabric on the chair in the dining room and the pattern on the coffee table in the living room so I am constantly reminded to do it. If we get a rainy day this weekend, I will cut it out. Fabric is all washed and ready to go.
