Another Atelier Shirt from The Maker’s Atelier. My second, but this time the one the gathered back and gathered sleeves. My first one in white embroidered cotton is here.

Patterns are not cheap so to have a version that looks so completely different is a definite bonus.

This mid-blue viscose chambray came from Little Legs. I was looking to emulate the ‘double denim’ trend as well add another classic to my wardrobe.

There are 3 main differences in this version. The gathered back which is wonderfully swishy.

The wider gathered sleeve head

And the gathering of the sleeve into the cuff

I sized down from the size 8 to the size 6, knowing that the additional fabric to the back would give more ease. It is still quite large however. I should have gone down one size more.

I love the back very much, it’s perfect with this flowy viscose.

I did start by using my usual french seams but this fabric made them too bulky so I painstakingly unpicked the seams and overlocked them instead.

The cuff on my previous shirt came up really large. Too large actually, with the cuffs slipping over my hands. I took 3 cm off the width of these ones. This also ensured the sleeves retained maximum billowiness!!

And I added pockets, using my Liesl and Co Classic Shirt pockets as a template. The white topstitching was unforgiving!

And finally, because I am very likely to be wearing this as an overshirt with leggings whilst working from home, I adjusted the hems to be curved, using a diner plate as a template.

It’s actually lovely and warm!

Well done, Lucie! I particularly love the use of a dinner plate for the hem☺️. The back gathers are lovely. Thank you for sharing!

This looks like a great wardrobe addition! I’m enjoying your uses of this pattern. I’m STILL working on a swimsuit, loads of unpicking here too. I have had several non sewing projects, but want this project done!😂 Heather in Colorado

Thank you. It’s turned cooler here this week so I’ve been wearing it over a long sleeved top. Cosy but still put together for my Teams meetings
I think my unpicker is my most used tool😂😂

Lovely and great topstitching! I loved this pattern when it came out for all the views. Haven’t taken the plunge and purchased yet so thank you for the reviews. I love the pleated view best but this is also beautiful.

Just happened upon your IG post while traveling. Love your version of this shirt and looking forward to getting home from our vacation to get back to my machine. I am also curious about your amazing jeans. Did you make them?
