Simplicity 8606 Holiday skirt

Posted by

I’m very fortunate to be heading to Cuba soon. I have a holiday sewing wish list as long as my arm but I reckon I’ll get around 4 things sewn up.

This is Simplicity 8060. I think this was free with a magazine many moons ago but I could be wrong.

It is just what I imagined. Bright and swirly

A wrap skirt with a flounce.

It comes in 4 options. This is view D. The short one but with the flounce

I gambled with the length as it is not easily adjustable. The longer version would have been far too long for me.

The flounce (or ruffle)  is cut on the spiral so tricky to adapt if you shorten or lengthen the skirt panels.

I went with the Size 14 indicated for a 28’’ waist, 38’’ hip. I’m a 29’’ waist and 37’’ hip.

It was a very straight forward sew with clear instructions.

The instructions require you to stay stitch across the top of the skirt panels and also the top of the ruffle which is very important as it is cut as a spiral piece and depending on your fabric could easily distort if not handled carefully.

This beautiful fabric is green viscose crepe from Minerva. It’s deadstock so once it’s gone, it’s gone!

It is quite a fabric hungry skirt, taking 1.7m in my size.

I was super thrilled when I realised my very old Zara top was a perfect match.

Perfect for a holiday don’t you think?

Love, Lucie xx

  1. Yes, perfect for holiday or any day (weather permitting). Fabulous color on you. Looks really nice. Thanks for posting.

BTW the linen shirt from the other day is quite fabulous too.

  2. This is a great outfit. I am loving that beautiful green at the moment and spent far too much on a jumper last weekend just for the colour. How lucky that you already had the perfect match for the skirt in your wardrobe.

    1. Thank you. What I had imagined wearing with this skirt looked just awful! Funny how things work out. Just spent several days on a supposedly quick white linen dress that is nothing like id hoped, but took a different path with it in the end with lots of hacking!
