I LOVE this!

But before I start, I fell for this top after seeing the exact same fabric/pattern combo in Kellie’s version, of maycontainnutsbykellie on instagram. So thank you Kellie and sorry for the complete plagiarism.
I’d had the Fielder top and Dress Pattern for a while but was waiting to come across some appropriate linen ( as per the majority of the Fielder Top makes) to make up the longer sleeve version.
This, of course, is not a linen!
It’s made up in a John Kaldor Barbi Stretch Crepe in ‘sky’. It feels like a ponte type fabric.

Knowing that the pattern runs quite generous, I sized down to a UK size 10. It fits perfectly.
Kelli had made her version using the crew neck add on pattern but I stuck with the original neck line.
The length is unchanged but I shortened the arms.
After applying the bottom ribbing, I took it off and took it in by 2 cm to give this look. It just stopped it looking too boxy in this fabric. I also narrowed the hem band so it was the same width as the neck band.

Even though I shortened the sleeves, I used the pattern wrist band ribbing size for the upper arm ribbing but I cut the depth in 2.
It was incredibly quick to sew.
The bust darts fell in exactly the right place.

I love the shoulder darts that give extra shaping, falling down the top of the arms.
I used my cover stitch machine to top stitch around the neckline and hemline.

I can see plenty more of these. Especially longer sleeved ones in the autumn.
I think this one can be worn both casually and in the office.

I love the white ribbing.
I’m off to sift through the stash to find some appropriate fabric for another!
It would be lovely in a solid bubble crepe.
Love, Lucie xx
Sounds as if it is not complete plagiarism. Always good to have a top design you like. Looks great.

This is fabulous Lucie. I bought the Fielder pattern getting on for a couple of years ago on a trip to Merchant and Mills but have yet to make it. This has tempted me to dig it out and find some fabric from my stash.

You need to! The shoulder dart together with the bust dart serve for a beautiful shape.

This is lovely, and so versatile in the fabric you’ve used.

Very nice and you’ve made me feel better about a Boden top I bought in a charity shop yesterday which has a large pattern on it and I wondered if it was ‘too much’ but you’ve proved big florals can look good.

I’d have grabbed a Boden top from a charity shop regardless! They are by far my longest wearing clothing items. Good find.
