Liesl & Co Classic Shirt

Posted by

It’s my new favourite shirt pattern!!

This is the Liesl & Co Classic Shirt Pattern.

It includes all the usual professional details like back yoke, separate collar and collar band, tower sleeve placket, separate placket and a variety of pockets.

It’s definitely my most comfortable shirt to date. Perhaps because of the bust darts with A/B, C and D cup size options.

Or maybe the quality white cotton from Fabworks containing a little stretch!!

I went for a utilitarian look with the pleated pockets and button down flap option.

But added a touch of femininity with a Liberty Lawn collar band.

It is lovely and long for tucking in!

There were several different methods of construction that were different to how I’d done them before. For example, cutting the sleeve placket into 2 pieces and also lots of use of basting stitches along fold lines which made ironing and pressing super accurate.

The instructions were superb!

I know practice makes perfect but using these methods has produced my most professional shirt so far. I’ll definitely be keeping this pattern on hand as a reference document in the future.

I made a size 4 bust size A/B as according to my bust measurement.

I’ll mainly be wearing this for work. I love how it looks under my old RTW Mango jacket.

I’ve just finished another one in a crepe. It has a totally different vibe about it. A truly versatile pattern.

Love, Lucie xx

  1. As you might remember, I’ve used Liesl & Co’s ‘male equivalent’, the All Day Shirt to make my husband a couple of shirts and I loved working with the pattern. He asked for no chest pockets so I didn’t get the chance to play about with those but yours look well done. Such a professional look is achieved isn’t it? I was very tempted to buy the female version too but don’t have an office to go to any more and it might be a bit ‘formal’ for my lifestyle now so I managed to resist.

    1. Yes, I remember your recommendation! That’s why I looked into it! It is a super shirt with lots of traditional details. I’ll be sharing my animal print crepe one next week when I’ve got some photos. It looks a lot more relaxed so I wouldn’t rule this out as being too formal.

  2. Love this shirt – it looks great for work, especially with the jacket. Love the “pop” of Liberty on the collar. It’s possibly a little too formal for my workplace, but I could do with a pattern for a men’s shirt. My other half wears the corduroy trousers I made for him loads, so about time I made him a shirt.
