I’ve read a few blog posts about Me Made May recently. I remember reading about the Me Made May of 2014 a whole year ago when I hadn’t made anything. I thought that maybe by 2016 I might have enough ‘made by me’ bits and pieces to take part.
The more posts I read the more I realised that actually the challenge was not to wear something you’ve made every day, although many do, but to challenge yourself to wear what you’ve made more often than usual and perhaps discover holes in your wardrobe that you might fill over the coming months.
In Zoe (who runs the challenge) of SoZoWhatDoYouKnow’s words
Me-Made-May’15 (#mmmay15 for social media interaction) is a challenge designed to encourage people who sew/knit/crochet/refashion/upcycle garments for themselves to actually wear and love them. The me-made and self-stitched challenges have been taking place for five years now and they work on both a personal and community level. The participants decide the specifics of their own challenge pledge, so that the month is appropriate and challenging for them (more on this below). For example, a very common pledge is for a participant to aim to wear one self-stitched or refashioned garment each day for the duration of May 2015. The participants can also choose to document their challenge with daily photos (though this is in no way compulsory for taking part) and share them with other participants.
I’ve had a scan through my ‘made by me’ wardrobe and think that with a couple of extra pieces I could pledge to wear stuff I’ve made 4 times a week – if the sun shines.
I really didn’t realise how much I’ve produced in the 9 months I’ve been doing this dressmaking malarkey but there will obviously be some repetition in outfits!
I could also incorporate a bag or two.
Although perhaps not my wedding handbag.
If it remains cold I’ll just have to wear my socks.
These will be purely weekend attire. I couldn’t squeeze them into my heels.
I’ll not bore you with daily photos but perhaps with the odd round up or two to record my fulfilled pledge.
So here is my pledge.
‘I, Lucie, of Love, Lucie, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’15. I endeavour to wear…at least 4 ‘me made’ garments per week…….. for the duration of May 2015′
I shall enjoy the interaction with the other 356 who have signed up.
Anyone else reading pledged?
Love, Lucie x
I love your style Lucie! Really enjoyed reading the post and then scrolling through your lovely makes (making notes of which patterns to buy!)

Hopefully the sun will be out! I’m also pledging to wear 4 garments a week 🙂

Well it seemed like a reasonable pledge without stressing me out!

You have done a LOT this year! I hope it stays warm so you can wear them all.

I think there’ll be plenty of cardigan wearing!

Cardigans at the ready! I’m pretty worried about what the weather will throw at us too. You’ve made some great items. Do you get to wear them as much as you want to?

I’ve generally been sewing for summer so I’ve not worn everything much so far. I really try and make stuff that i’ll find really useful and that I can wear everyday.
I’ve 5 tops that I can wear for work with smart trousers but it’s been a little chilly for bare arms for a while.
I’ve not yet worn my dress but I hope to put that right this weekend.
I just need to work my way up to work trousers but that won’t happen this May!

Will look forward to seeing you wear them all. Our weather causes so many sartorial problems 😉

Should be a doodle for you if the sun comes out – you’ve made so much in nine months!

Cardigans and jackets at the ready, I think.

You’ve made some lovely garments. And your bags are wonderful. I’ve not signed up to Me Made May, but maybe next year.

It looks like you’ve set yourself your own set of challenges for this May! I think that’ll keep you busy enough.

I’m sure it will – although one reason for not doing me made may was most of my me made is woolly and I thought May would be too hot. But if today’s anything to go on, I’m going to be terribly wrong.

I’m really looking forward to this too. I can’t believe how many people have signed up for it this year – exciting stuff! x

Fingers crossed for some sun in May for you! I’ve done Me Made May in the past, but found it a bit stressful so I’m not taking part this year.
Did you have a pattern for that gorgeous denim (?) clutch bag with the ivory crochet semi circle on it? I’d love to make something like that.

I really made this one up as I went along but you can see the post here.

I use it on holiday. It’s not the most practical of bags as pennies can easily escape but great for a phone and a lipstick!

Me Made May was fun last year and I was in pretty much the same position as you, having only been sewing clothes for a few months. Also my first makes were lots of sleeveless tops (sound familiar?) and it was rather cold last year in May! Good luck!

Ha, ha! Yes I think we started off similarly – by not inserting sleeves!

Lucie! You have been churning stuff out – I bet you exceed your pledge and do more than four garments a week. Good luck!

I could just do with a few things with sleeves!
I guess sleeveless tops were just easy to do when first starting out!

Looks like you could wear them every day as long as you wash them every week or so. (I have been wearing hand-made socks everyday for the last couple of weeks. I have 5 or 6 pairs.) But I presume this is more about dressmaking.

Yes, I agree, I could just repeat the same top, once a week which would be much easier to do if it warmed up a bit!

It looks like you have a good range of clothes to wear for the challenge. Good luck!!

I just wish I had more things with sleeves. A definite hole in my wardrobe!
