Summer sewing

I’ve been planning my next batch of posts for Minerva Crafts.

This is quite one of my favourite parts of contributing to the Minerva Bloggers Network, perusing through their extensive website and narrowing down my choices.

I like to choose something I’m definitely going to wear, find a use for or gift to someone else.

I also have to choose something I know I can pull off successfully! There couldn’t be anything more humiliating (well for me, anyway) than admitting defeat when Minerva have provided all the materials for the project.

However my confidence has been growing of late. This Friday you’ll see my post about an actual dress! One I’m rather proud of.

Here’s a sneaky peak.

So it was with renewed vigour that I chose my next three makes for Minerva.

Yesterday we booked our summer holiday to Greece (yay!) so these have definitely been chosen with the sunshine in mind.

The first, a 60’s shift.

I’ve been wanting to make a shift for a while now. But I get lost in straight up and down; I need some structure. I saw this from the Thewallinna and other creatures blog and liked it because of the shaping under the bust.

This is my fabric. (click on the image for a link)

Yikes, it’ll be bright! There is definitely some 60’s vibe going on here. It is a cotton poplin and I’m not sure whether the fabric will be heavy enough for what I have in mind so I’ve ordered some lining fabric too. I might also invest in a covered belt for this one.

Second comes a mini skirt.

I’ll make View A, the short one with pockets. I’ve chosen this lovely stretch cotton.

Doesn’t it look fresh? With a cotton vest in any of these colours I shall look as fresh as a daisy! (Hmmmm)

And finally another dress. This one has more shaping, more like what I usually wear to go out in.

I’m planning on making view B, again in a stretch cotton but with a sheen in it.

You’ll see me coming in this! I’ve seen the most perfect pair of purply blue shoes……….

I can’t wait to receive my parcel. I’m always a little nervous to see whether the feel, weight and pattern of the fabric is what I had envisaged.
