After watching a free sewing machine feet course on Craftsy last weekend I discovered
- What many of my up until now untouched sewing machine feet were for
- I needed more feet.
These arrived in the post yesterday.
I’ve not just bought them on a whim, but for my next two projects.
Yes, more tops!
Firstly I’ll be using my 2mm rolled hem foot on the the sleeves of this blouse which I down loaded from the American Burdastyle site.
This blouse looks uncannily like this top from Boden at £49.00
I’ve heard the rolled hem is a little tricky so I’ll be getting in lots of practice first. I’ve already made up a toile and taken it in a lot at the waist and curved the top of the shoulders/sleeves so it’ll look more like the Boden one.
Then I’ll be using my invisible zipper foot to insert my first invisible zip in this one
I have some black sateen cotton for the collar.
I hope to have at least one of these down this weekend but my daughter returns from a week with her grandparents so we will be indulging in lots of mother daughter time. I have all her favourite meals planned.

The right foot makes a big difference. I love my new invisible zipper foot. (Have you used the rolled hem foot photo twice? Is your invisible zipper foot camera shy?)
I did a rolled hem recently on a chiffon skirt but I used a setting on my overlocker – not sure that it’s perfect but it looks fine.

Thanks for that, amended now.
I’ve seen the over locker rolled hem (courtesy of my overlocker DVD) and agree it would be perfect on chiffon. I’m going to try to use that technique on some potential scarf edges and also to bind the edges of some muslin squares for face cloths as all my existing ones shouldn’t really been seen out in public.

The last time I took a muslin square out in public was quite some time ago – it was over my shoulder ready to catch baby vomit. I’m not sure it had a rolled hem but that didn’t seem important at the time 🙂

Ha, ha! When I said public I meant when staying away. It doesn’t look nice to have grubby white face cloths in crisp hotel bathrooms!

Yes! Feet can be helpful! I hope you will find other useful feet. I use very often ‘stitch in the ditch’ foot or similar.

Wow, that’s a lovely blouse! And it does look like the Boden one. Nice job. I’m addicted to presser feet myself. You never can have enough.

You can never have too many feet! Learning what my faux overlocking foot could do changed EVERYTHING! Well, the finish of my seams! 🙂

Of course you do need a machine that can do a faux overlock stitch in the first place, and it’s still not as good as a real overlocker (something that’s still on my want list!).
