Pie 2

There has been a definite drop in the morning temperatures this week.
It’s been chilly enough to warrant a jacket.
There’s fewer jobs to do in the garden; leaving me more time to spend in the kitchen.
Pie season beckons so I thought I’d get some practice in and dust off the pie book.

I choose the smoked fish and cider pie knowing that this would be a bit of a gamble as Jamie Oliver’s traditional potato topped fish pie is always a winner in this household.

Virtuously, I made the puff pastry before breakfast, giving it further rolls, folds and rests through out the morning.
The sauce was basically a roux sauce but made with cider instead of milk and enriched with creme fraiche.
The fish was a mixture of smoked and unsmoked haddock with king prawns.
I offered my daughter the left over 50ml of cider thinking it would be her first taste of cider. After some thought she said, ‘I prefer Strongbow’ !!!!!!!!!!

It lacked some finesse, with a definite homemade look about it, but it tasted delicious.
My partner said if he had to choose between the two, he’d still go with Jamie.
No pleasing some people.

    1. I’ve had this book for a couple of years now. I regularly make about 4 of the pies throughout the winter but am pushing myself to make more; they are all so delicious. Lots of puddings too:)

  1. We love Jamie’s fish pie in our house too but your pie looks like a great alternative. We went to The Old Deanery Thursday and Friday, absolutely loved it, I took my camera and had some fun taking photos I will post later in the week once I have had chance to sort out the images.
